A writing app for your own folder

A page of your own.

A calm Markdown app for a folder of plain files. AI proposes. You approve every word.

Mac only, in a private beta. Your notes stay plain .md files in your own folder.

Plain files

Your folder of .md files. Open it in Assis, Obsidian, or any editor.

You approve AI

Every AI change shows word by word. Enter keeps it. Escape drops it.

Your own AI

Assis uses your Claude Code or Codex. No Assis account, no Assis AI server.

Yours to shape

Themes, AI actions, and plugins from one sentence. You review the code.

Write

A calm place to write.

Markdown marks show only where you type. An outline waits at the edge. Click a task to finish it.

AI

Ask in plain words. Review every word.

Select text and press ⌘J. Or chat with a note, and accept the edit card. Or press ⌘K and give a task to an agent.

Focus

One project at a time.

A focus shows the files of one kind of work and dims the rest. Each focus keeps its own tabs. It can follow macOS Focus.

Actions

The right buttons, right there.

Each file type gets its own action trail. Type / to run any action from the keyboard. Ask for a new button, and an agent builds it. You review its code before it runs.

Workflows

A folder that works on its own.

Describe the work in a sentence. An agent builds the workflow, and you approve it. Triggers: files, schedules, events, webhooks.

Make it yours

Shaped by one sentence.

Ask for a theme, and the window changes. Ask for an AI action or a feature, read its code, then install it.

Every file

Every file, one window.

Markdown, Typst documents with live pages, PDF, images, audio, code, HTML, canvas boards, and Excalidraw. Export Markdown and Typst to PDF.

Everywhere

Capture anywhere. Read everywhere.

Quick capture

Select text in any app and press Shift twice.

On your phone

Share the folder with your phone over Tailscale.

In Claude Code

Give Claude Code your notes through MCP.

Local search

Search by meaning with a local model.

Still taking shape

What comes next.

No dates. Things ship when they feel right.

  1. A signed build, so testers open Assis like any Mac app.
  2. Workflows that run when the app is closed.
  3. Live editing of the same note on two devices.
  4. An Assis focus that turns on a macOS Focus.
  5. Document history kept on disk, and crash recovery.
  6. A public release, when it is ready.

A few answers

Questions, answered.

Is Assis free?

During the private beta, yes. It is a side project.

Which AI does it use?

Your own Claude Code or Codex on your Mac, or an OpenAI-compatible API such as Ollama or OpenRouter. Assis does not run an AI service.

Where are my notes?

In your folder, as plain files. Assis does not copy them anywhere.

Does it replace Obsidian?

No. Assis opens the same folder, and both apps can live together.

Which systems?

macOS during the beta.

How do I join?
